"An absolute gem of tour; informative, entertaining and perfectly paced." Clive and Gilly Clarke
Join me and a small* group of people on a very special tour of the Vatican Museums.
The guide books, blogs and forums all bristle with warnings about how crowded the museums can become. Let me say that they are not exaggerating. On average, in the region of 12,000 people visit the Vatican Museums every day. The result is chronic congestion within and long lines without.
While it is easy to avoid the lines by booking tickets in advance, it is much harder to avoid the seemingly endless tour groups, who choke the narrow spaces of the museum, making it all but impossible to see anything properly.
There is, thankfully, one way to make sure the hordes are kept to a minimum and that is to enter the museum shortly before 16.00, after which there are no further admssions. As the museum doesn't actually close until 18.00, this leaves two hours in which to enjoy the collection in relative peace and quiet.
Small means small: In order to provide as personal a service as possible, I limit the size of the group to a maximum of six people.
- The tour costs €45 and takes place at 15.30 every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
