Private and small group tours for the discerning traveller.
Welcome to the website of Roma Antica, your key to the treasures of Rome and Florence. My name is David Lown, MA, and I am a writer and art historian from Cambridge, England. I am also the director of Roma Antica, a cultural association, which organises private and small group tours of Rome and Florence. Your time in Italy is precious so why not make the optimum use of it by treating yourself to a private tour. Tailored to your requirements and taken at a time that is convenient to you, a private tour is undoubtedly the best way of getting to know a place. Starting from as little as 55 euros an hour, I am confident that my private tours represent excellent value for money.

My experience of introducing people to the cultural delights of Italy goes back many years. As a lecturer in Art History, I used to run study tours of Rome, Florence and Venice. In 2001 I decided to settle here permanently and in the following year I set up Roma Antica. | Rome: In order to help you plan what you might like to visit, the following is a suggestion of the minimum amount of time one needs to devote to each: The Roman Forum: two hours The Palatine: one hour The Colosseum: one hour The Vatican Museums: two hours St Peter's Basilica: one hour Centro Storico (Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi etc): three hours

| Florence: One of the reasons people tell me they like my tours of Florence so much is that I combine the familar with the unfamiliar. In additon to places that everybody has heard of and wants to see, I will introduce you to equally fascinating places, which few people know about and even fewer visit. It is often such places that linger in the memory long after you have left the city. | |
In addition to private tours, I also run a small group tour of the Vatican and one of the Forum/Palatine (Weekend Walks)

Over the next few weeks I will be uploading a series of short articles I have written about Rome and Florence. They cover a wide range of topics which are not found in the average guide books.
